What Preface is
Preface helps you turn what is worrying you about your health into clear questions to bring to your clinician. It does not give medical advice, and it is not a medical provider.
What we collect
As little as possible. You do not need to give your name, and we ask you not to share details that identify you. Your conversation is not stored on our servers. When you close the page, it is gone. Your question list is saved only on your own device unless you choose to print, copy, or share it.
How your replies are generated
To produce a response, your messages are sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, which generates the reply and returns it. Under our business associate agreement and a zero data retention arrangement, OpenAI processes your messages only to generate that response. It does not retain them and does not use them to train its models.
Analytics
We measure only content-free usage, such as how many sessions begin, which language is chosen, and whether a question list was created. We never record your messages, never use session recording, and set no advertising or tracking cookies.
Security
Everything is encrypted in transit, we keep no health data at rest, and we never write your messages to our logs. More detail is on the security page.
Not for emergencies
If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US.
